We know you were expecting a manual but it is not really necessary. Almost everything in EPEE has a "Right Click" menu. We suggest you just move around and
right click items to see your options.
You will need to know a few terms.
Matrix - The main EPEE view with a first column of lesson titles and additional columns for supporting resources. Each Matrix contains it's own Matrix View with
files, Calendar View to show completed work and Standards View showing standards targeted in the specific matrix and those standards met to date. Looking at
the left margin of our sample matrix, you can see several colored tabs. Each identifies a specific matrix. Any Matrix can be exported and imported into any
Hypermatrix without issue. One or more Matrix make up a Hypermatrix.
Hypermatrix - The entire EPEE archive file of all matrix and data. Important : Exporting an entire EPEE Hypermatrix is for archive purposes or to allow a full
curriculum to be created and given to first time users. Importing a Hypermatrix to a computer already containing a Hypermatrix will overwrite the current version
with the import. This feature is also used to update your master curricula database. (Faculty accessible shared file folder.)
Row - Each row is one lesson and those cells should contain that lessons' specific resources. Drag and drop any file into the appropriate cell. Right click the
lesson title for other options.
Tab - Each matrix has it's own tab at the left margin. Click the tabs to cycle through your classes. Right click this tab for matrix options.
Associate - EPEE comes with all State Standards files. You will select those you need in the wizard. This will filter out and associate your subset of standards to
the matrix. Example: PA, Mathematics, 5th Grade.
Assign - We assign one or several standards to each lesson from the associated subset. Right clicking a lesson title and selecting "standards list" will display
your associated menu of standards for assigning specific standards to that specific lesson.
Global Standard - Standards you wish to assign to every lesson in your matrix with one entry. Saves data entry time. You have only the one opportunity to assign
global standards. You must assign them from the wizard when creating the matrix.
Custom Standard - You can create and/or add/update standards manually. Select "Standards" from the top left corner of your matrix window. Then; Associated
Standards. This will open the Associated Standards Page. Select "add new custom". See video on main page.
Associated Standards Page - A page in which the top third displays the standards associated with the current matrix. The middle third is for entering custom
standards and updates manually. The bottom third is used to select a subset of standards you wish to associate to the matrix. Once you have filtered down to the
desired standards, click the "Add Selected Standards" button and those standards will move to the associated list at the top. They will now appear in the
associated pool (right click a lesson title and select Standards List) to be assigned to individual lessons and in Standards View.
Standards View - Displayed by clicking the "Standards View" button in the Action Bar. Shows all assigned and non-assigned standards that have been
associated to the current matrix. They can be viewed graphically or in text. Any Standards not addressed in the curriculum will display in gray.
Archiving - From the upper left corner of your Matrix View, select file; then export; entire hypermatrix . It will be saved with the extension .epee. This file can be
burned to disc or stored in a Past Years file folder. Simply open the file to review past curriculum files, standards, class progress, etc.
Sharing the Work – Divide your specific standards between participating teachers of the same subject and grade level. Each teacher will provide complete
lessons that target their assigned standards. All lessons are dropped into one Matrix and then exported to all participants. Use EPEE Lesson Plan templates for
uniformity.
A school implementing EPEE throughout may consider creating master Matrix for each subject and grade level and then export them to the appropriate teachers.
Using EPEE District Wide
Create a Hypermatrix for one Subject. Create a Matrix for each grade level and insert curriculum files. Go to File; Export; Single Index/Matrix to your desktop.
Repeat this export for each matrix within the Hypermatrix. Place these files (.epi) on your network as shared files. Load EPEE on PCs on the network. From EPEE
on a PC select File;then; Import. Locate the required shared .epi file. Each teacher can import any curriculum they need with all files and standards in place.
The information you input into EPEE is your curriculum files. If your files are not in digital format you can scan them or try our EPEE Templates. EPEE should
already contain your State standards and you will identify the standards you want to associate to your Matrix by making selections in the wizard. When your matrix
is generated and your curriculum installed you will then select each individual lesson (right click) and assign the appropriate standards from a drop-down menu.
When you have entered all your lessons and assigned each a standard(s), select "Standards View" from the Action Bar at the top of the Matrix View. All standards
that have been assigned will be displayed in black text and those standards not yet addressed in a lesson will be displayed in gray. Place the cursor over the
code to display the standard description. You can then create a lesson and supporting resources to target those standards in gray. Use the Action Bar or "right
click" menu to insert a lesson (row) where needed. Drag and drop the new lesson and resources into the matrix. Right click to assign the standards for that
lesson. Repeat the process until all standards are addressed. (black text) You now have a complete curriculum. We suggest you archive this matrix as a backup.
Once you have your matrix completed to your satisfaction you can right click the matrix tab at the left and duplicate the matrix as many times as you wish.
(Generally one for each class) As you review a lesson highlight the appropriate cell(s) and mark it complete. This will date stamp the completed work. Marking
the "Lesson Plan" cell complete will log the assigned standards as completed. Proceed through your school year marking items complete and EPEE will do the
rest.
At the end of the year archive the entire EPEE Hypermatrix to disc by right clicking "File" at the top left corner of the matrix window. Export the file to disk or flash-
drive. Then select "Clear Progress Data". You're ready for next year.
EPEE is at your control but it is best to follow a few simple rules.
1. Each subject and grade level should be in a separate Matrix. EPEE can hold more than you will need.
2. Create your Matrix completely, THEN, duplicate it as many times as needed using unique sub-titles.
3. Save a master copy without progress data as a backup. (see archiving)
4. You can import/export a Matrix so sharing is time saving and useful.
5. MOST IMPORTANT : Importing an entire Hypermatrix( EPEE file of all matrix) WILL OVERWRITE YOUR CURRENT EPEE Hypermatrix. Do not import an entire
Hypermatrix unless you are just starting to use EPEE or you are planning to replace any and all work you have already created. If you want to share a curriculum
without overwriting, export the each desired matrix our of the Hypermatrix individually. You can import any single Matrix into your Hypermatrix without overwrite
issues.
START
Creating your Matrix
You will need to consider the Title and Sub-Title of the matrix the EPEE Wizard will create. For example you can title the matrix “Mathematics 101” with a sub-title
“1st Period”. You will also want to consider the number of individual lessons in your curriculum. EPEE will need to know the approximate number of lesson
headers to create. You will enter your Lesson Titles into this first column of headers. You can choose the number of Main Headers and the number of Sub-
Headers. An example of the use of Main and Sub Headers may include: 4 Main headers with 20 Sub-headers under each for marking the four quarters of the
school year. You may want to separate sections of your subject as in Reading Lessons, Writing Lessons, Comprehension Lessons, etc. for Language Arts. You
do not need to be precise because you can add or subtract them as needed in the Matrix.
The first Wizard screen is a Welcome page. It will provide limited information about entering your lesson information into the EPEE Matrix once you complete the
Wizard.
The second Wizard screen is where you name your Matrix. It can be changed later if needed.
The third Wizard screen is where you will give the EPEE Wizard some idea as the size of matrix you will require. You will need to enter the number of individual
lessons you will have in your curriculum. You will have the option of classifying your lessons as Main Lessons or Sub-Lessons. Choosing five Main headings
and five Sub-headings will create a matrix with thirty headings to rename with your Lesson Titles.
The fourth Wizard screen is to identify the resources that you use in your lessons. Educational Defaults are selected and you can uncheck any you do not use.
You can also use the custom tab to enter your own set. Either way you can add, delete, or rename them from the Matrix. If you are planning to export and import
between teachers in your school we recommend everyone uses the default resource settings as they are selected in the wizard.
The fifth Wizard screen is where you will select the Standards to be associated with your matrix. You will have two options. Use a set of pre-defined standards or
create your own standards list by selecting the second option. Choosing the second option selection will take you to the "Create a Standards List" page where
you will need to enter your Standards. You will want to be sure to enter your global standards (standards you wish to assign to every lesson) because the next
window in the wizard is to associate global standards. All other standards can be added or removed from the matrix later by selecting the Standards button at the
top left of the matrix. Once you have made a selection of predefined standards or entered your own list, you have successfully “associated” a subset of standards
to the matrix.
The sixth Wizard screen is optional. It is to identify Global Standards as mentioned above. A Global Standard is a standard that most of your lesson may
include; for example, “Using text resources” or “Use appropriate problem solving techniques”. When assigned to the Global Standards List, these Standards will
be automatically assigned to every lesson saving standard entry time. You can add or remove any assigned standard from any lesson from the matrix.
You now have the information required for EPEE to create your Matrix. Once you click “finish”, your matrix will be ready for you to enter your lesson titles and drop
your curriculum files into the Matrix. Right click any lesson title for a menu. Right click any Resource Header for a menu. Right click any Matrix Cell for a menu.
Your Matrix is Created
Now that your matrix is created you can name each lesson by right clicking the lesson header and selecting rename. Next, drag and drop your curriculum files
into the appropriate cells. If you need to add, remove or rename a resource column, right click the column header for a menu.
Once you have your titles and files entered you will want to “assign” standards to each lesson. You have already “associated” a subset of pre-defined standards
or you have created your own standards list. To assign standard(s) to a lesson, right click a lesson header and select “standards list”. Use the dropdown list to
locate and select a standard(s). If you want to review the required standards for your subject area select “standards view” from the action bar and then graphical
view. Place the cursor over any standard to see the description. Standards listed in gray still need to be assigned. Those listed in black have been assigned.
When the lessons and supporting resources exist that incorporate all required standards you should have a complete curriculum. Now you can duplicate the
matrix as needed for each class you teach. Rename each duplicate as needed. You can now maintain progress of each class individually. The key to using
EPEE is to create the entire matrix just the way you want it, then simply duplicate the matrix as many time as you wish. Although you may need to change a file or
two in the future (drag and drop the new onto the old) you should have a curriculum management system you can use for the rest of your career. Use it year after
year by archiving the file at the end of the year and clearing the progress data. (File – “Export”- “Entire Hypermatrix” - “Clear Progress Data”)
Most questions are solved by "right clicking" the item with the issue and reading your options from the menu.
I am an individual and my standards are not in the trial, how do I get them? Chances are you are teaching one
grade level or one subject. That would include a minimal number of standards. You do not need to enter all state standards,
just the ones you require. The fifth wizard page has a " Create a Standards List" option. You create your list there.
How do I update or add standards? Answer: Go to Matrix View; then Standards at top left; then Associate Standards;
Click the Add Custom Standard button;then Add New Custom. You should see data entry fields pop into the window.
We have completely overhauled our standards; now what do we do? Answer: First, relax it is easier than you think.
Contact Ed-Man, our support staff will request a file and send you a file. You just drag and drop the new file into the
appropriate program folder. EPEE V2.0 now has an Update Standards feature and can do this automatically.

EPEE MANUAL
TIPS ON USING EPEE.
Agree on a lesson plan template and provide it to the faculty. One is available for free on this website. Divide the standards for each subject
and grade between the faculty. Each teacher can complete and submit lesson plans targeting the individual assigned standards. Load EPEE on
a shared computer in the faculty room. Create a matrix for each subject and grade. Enter the lesson titles in the order they will be taught.
Teachers then drag and drop their new template lesson plans from their flash drive into the appropriate matrix and cells. Once all lesson plans
are entered each teacher can search for or create their own supporting resources (handouts, worksheets, videos, etc.) for their lessons and
drop them into the appropriate resource cells. Before you know it you will have a complete set of curricula. Teachers can view each matrix and
help locate or create supporting materials for any empty cells. Once all cells are loaded and lesson modules are complete, each matrix is saved
separately and stored as .epi files in a shared file folder. Any teacher can now import a copy of one or more curriculum matrix to their laptop, PC
or flash drive. Any teacher that wishes to make changes can alter their copy without making changes to the original. Any teacher that discovers
a new resource for a specific lesson can simply email it to the other teachers. They can then drop it into their matrix if they wish to use it.
If you wish EPEE to continually grow, changes can be made in the originals. When imported each year, EPEE will overwrite the previous years
matrix and all new changes will be in place.
